Types of wool
The widely used wool is the one which is produced from the sheep’s fur and there are also a lot of varieties under this as well. The basic features of a sheep’s wool are that they are free from wrinkles so the dresses or the material made from it never gets wrinkles. Then the fibre is highly durable and thus once you have a woollen clothing you don’t have to worry about it even if you used it regularly. You can stretch it as well and it won’t crack up and dye it as you wish, this fibre is very versatile and can be used for multiple purposes.
- Merino is the wool which is produced from the sheep which are from Australia. The special features are its softness and the sheen of the fibre and the warmth it provides to your body.
- The softest wool of all the sheep wools is the virgin wool which is made from the first shearing of the lambs.
- The lambswool which is made from the fur of the little sheep or the lambs are smooth and silky and very soft though not like virgin wool but really soft.
- The boiled wools are the ones which are the most resistant ones. The most durable as well and these are dense wool. You can find these fibres on the outer coverings of the woollen gloves and the hats.
- The alpaca wool is made from alpaca which is found in the Andes. Two types of this wool are produced which are known as the suri and the huacaya. The later one is crimped and thick but the former one is more lustrous. Though these wools are lightweight but very strong and used for making upholstery and blankets.
- There is also wool produced from the fur of rabbits which is known as the angora wool and it is made out of the angora rabbits. This is lustrous and cottony soft and warmer than the sheep’s wools.
